What is Your Interest in AI and Machine Learning?

I am preparing my schedule for topics in 2019 for ESSENTIALS, as well as other programs such as RoadTests and/or Webinars. I have discussed with others about offering a several part series on artificial intelligence or machine learning. I think it's topic that everyone should have knowledge in. My intent was that the first module might be more general knowledge, but the subsequent ones would be much more in depth -- perhaps more like a tutorial.

I am not seeing a lot of content on this topic on the community. Never much in the way of discussions. Hence, this poll. If you have the time, please respond. Thanks.

AI has been around for more than 40 years, going through many phases of hopes and disillusions. It is rather a vast area, but the new boost of successful research and interest in the academic and industrial…

The subject on AI is very interesting to me. I feel this will soon be integrated into different fields like medicine. I have read up on AI and would like to know more about what is up and coming. The ability…

Something I've never read too much into but would really like to learn some more. The bit I really need to understand is how AI software differs from, what many of us are familiar with, the procedural…

I previously was casually interested, but after finding this I'm highly interested

I have been interested in AI since I studied at University in the 1980s and considered the use of artificial neural networks for controlling a mobile robot. I didn't use them at that time but came back to the topic in probably the 1990s and later, looking at Fuzzy Logic, Genetic Algorithms and ANNs (again) and have been dipping in and out ever since. I do find these modern systems just astonishing and amazing at what they can do because I am used to systems that cannot do. I keep thinking I would like to know more but my brain just keeps saying 'No Thanks' so I might stick with the mobile robots, or gardening - much easier, or tea.

    Hi Yahya,

I'm curious to know how have you came to the conclusion that "(Machine Learning)... limits the complexity of the tasks the machines can do.". Are you saying that, using normal programming techniques you would be able to teach a machine how to recognise a road, and achieve better accuracy than ML algorithms?

Dunno about roads, but machines have surpassed humans in many pattern recognition tasks.

I am working on an algorithm which, hopefully - if it turns out as I suspect - will be able to make the implementation possess "common sense". I am no computer expert,  or a brilliant software engineer,  infact,  I am just an undergraduate student studying robotics at the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore.  But I have observed human behaviour and deveolpments in AI over the past three years.  Here is my opinion on it:

Machine Learning is not totally bad,  but limits the complexity of tasks the machines can do.  A human can easily recognize a road,  even when he sees a small portion of it.  And with nearly 100 percent confidence claim that what he is seeing is a piece of concrete road,  whereas a machine learning algorithm will be busy chosing whether it is concrete piece or a carbon paper or a grey sheet or a rock.  The difference arises in two areas: The humans do not just depend on the.... I will continue this when someone ask me to.  Peace out.

I'd be interested in Machine Learning for single board computers - something where the algorithm isn't so complex that I can't wrap my head around it.

I think this would be a hot topic, based on the responses. I must look at Deep Blue Group and see how it relates...

Yes!! Not all data can be handled the same way. And not all questions about data can be answered with yes or no.

i have used Jetson TX2 previously it has 256 NVidia Pascal GPU cores, whereas the Jetson Nano has 128 cores but it is Maxwell core. According to some reading online, Maxwell was made on 28nm (and in the case of the TX1, 20nm) whereas Pascal is made on 16nm, the performance shouldn't differ too much but apparently there is no way the maxwell will perform better than Pascal. Anyhow, Jetson Nano is squarely aiming at "NVIDIA Jetson Nano enables the development of millions of new small, low-power AI systems. " So i think it is still a great product at $99. But if got chance wish to test it against the small xilinx powered board like the ultra96
