Parakeets are great pets with high intelligence and social skills. However, they can’t dive in the water, similarly to ducks or other birds, as it may be dangerous for them due to rapid waterlogging and exhaustion. Recently, Steven Lawyer built a special submarine for his six-year-old parakeet called Bebe to explore the aquatic world and snorkel with its owner.
The submarine, called the Bebosphere, features an oxygen meter, paintball air cylinder, and lead weights. With this setup, Bebe dives approximately three feet underwater, allowing him to glimpse the reefs, which may not have been seen by his species before. Lawyer came up with this idea while snorkeling in the Bahamas and mentioned Bebe enjoys going along with him during their activities.
Lawyer also mentioned Bebe willingly enters the submarine when it’s diving time. He is also curious about what’s going on underwater and didn’t show signs of nervousness. A viral video posted on Instagram shows the parakeet enjoying the experience. Additionally, Bebe went with his owner on 15 skydives last fall. In a YouTube video, the parakeet hops in a see-through capsule attached to his owner’s chest as he leaps out of a plane.
Here is a news broadcast that shows a video of the sub in action.
People love their pets. Anyone remember Project Goldie? A whole remote fish tank controller, just for one fish. Admittedly, the best goldfish ever. We do a lot for our pet's lives.
