Time to put up the Christmas lights - with a difference.

I've not been as active as I'd have liked on E14 over the last year or so. That's something I hope to change. I've mainly been busy with a new job (with lots to learn), but also the change from Jive to Verint at the same time didn't help. Nothing felt quite in the same place.

Anyway, I feel it's time for something Christmassy. Something silly. Something fun. Something likely to fail, but that doesn't really matter.

I'm really not a fan of putting up Christmas light. We tens to hang then along the roofline of our house. It looks good, but it's high. I always end up standing at the very top of a long ladder, often with the top rung about knee height and my hand against the wall. It feels dangerous. Frankly, it is dangerous. Each year I swear I'm not doing it again. Time to get smart about it.

If you record the flight path of the drone this year, it can hang your lights *unsupervised* all the coming years. What a time to be alive.

Ok - so maybe some of you are wondering how it went. My first attempt was pretty close. I managed to get the string over the hook, but it was doubled over and came off again when I pulled the end I could…

You're having way too much fun Smile.   Can't wait for the videos of the drone flights...

I did come up with a solution to clear jams in my high gutters - a long extendable pole with a hook on the end.  That probably would work for you, but a lot less fun.

You'll have some great Christmas videos!

Ha!  That's great!  That would definitely be a lot of fun, but hard to maneuver around the house and through the gates.  Not to mention what the wife would think Smile...   You must watch a LOT of YouTube.  And have a great memory.

    Slight smile

I remember that particular video clip when it was first broadcast on TV in the early 90's. Luckily Tim Hunkin remastered the series and uploaded it to YouTube last year in order to preserve it.

I'm pretty selective about what I watch on YouTube really. I can usually remember having watched something of interest, but the problem is more trying to remember exactly which video it was featured in. It took me a couple of attempts this time as there was a similar scene in another video from the series about hydraulic lifts

    https://youtu.be/7rBnoY3x4kY?t=1090

and there was another couple of episodes about the office and the automobile that it might also have featured in. Sometimes it is not on-line and part of a documentary recorded on a DVD or a DVD that I've ordered from the people involved with the production e.g. Tim Hunkin produced a DVD separate from the TV series which had similar content.

Other problem areas are when it has been contained in a webinar/course requiring registration to access as opposed to a video published on Vimeo/YouTube.

Tim Hunkin's stuff is brilliant. I like his more recent Secret Life of Components. I can't say I learned anything new, but love they way he does everything. I took my kids to his Under the Pier show recently and they thought it was great too.

The Secret Life of Components series was also a good series.

After being to the pier show with the kids, you might have to up the game a bit now. Before you know it, you will be working out how to winch up an A-frame truss section onto the house loaded with all sorts of Xmas animatronics. Slight smile

Come to think of it, a couple of hinges at the lower ends of the bargeboards and a winch in the attic connecting to the apex and you could be sorted Slight smile

Makes painting them less risky as well.
