Greetings Best Community Members in the Galaxy!
It was a bank holiday in the UK last week, here in the States we have labor day coming up this Monday. I've decided to take a couple of days to visit family so I will be gone from Friday till Wednesday of next week. I'll try to post again next week as this experiment seems to be going good. This week I put together a Checklist and Quickstart Guide on the On24 platform to present to suppliers for our Webinars program. It will help us prepare for dry runs and also leverage the On24 platform which we switched to from webex to offer a more engaging experience.. We're always looking for ways to amp up the excitement level and webinars are no different! If you have suggestions on how you would like to improve the learning experience from webinars than let us know in the comments below. As we continue to work with presenters, there will be an emphasis on incorporating video, using polls, and linking back to great content during the webcast experience.
And of course, there's always a lot happening with Project14 . We're even planning some exciting collaborations with element14 presents, in the near future. The state of video on the community is very exciting right now.
A Competition of Ideas in Energy Harvesting!
BigG revisits the Cypress S6SAE101A00SA1002S6SAE101A00SA1002 Solar Powered IoT Device Kit that he reviewed as part of Solar-Powered IoT Device Kit - Review back in 2016. At the time, I was new to Cypress’s PSoC Creator and PSoC/PRoC BLE devices. Now he's considering using it as part of the Energy Harvesting competition:
Also, be sure to check out the discussion happening now for ideas you can do around Energy Harvesting projects:

Dubbie Takes the Next Step Toward Augmented Reality in Electronic Toys!
dubbie takes the next step in his augmented reality project for the Project14 Electronic Toys challenge. He seems to be able to display the Pixy cam processed image onto a display, so now he'll create a headset that will detect rotation and tilt and transfer that information to the servo motors controlling the pan and tilt of the Pixycam:
Upcoming Webinar on a Benchtop the Size of a Hockey Puck!
12 Benchtop instruments Including an Oscilloscope, Waveform Generator, Logic Analyzer, and More!
jlucas was kind of enough to host this webinar on short notice so help support him by signing up:
jlucas does a great job with this his Introducing The Business of Engineering Podcast which I encourage all of you to check out as well. It's one that I'm really excited about knowing how much our community members love their Test & Tools! The Digilent Analog Discovery 2 is a USB oscilloscope and multi-function instrument that allows you to measure, visualize, generate, record, and control mixed-signal circuits of all kinds. The Analog Discovery 2 can be configured to work as any one of several traditional instruments including an Oscilloscope, Waveform Generator, Power Supply, Voltmeter, Data Logger, Logic Analyzer, Pattern Generator, Static I/O, Spectrum Analyzer, Network Analyzer, Impedance Analyzer, and Protocol Analyzer. It looks like a pretty impressive tool:

This would probably make a great prize the next time we run something like a DIY Test Equipment or a Test Instrumentation competition. In the meantime, attend this webinar to get an overview of this amazing instrument, the free WaveForms software (Windows, Mac, and Linux compatible) that allows you to configure several traditional instruments, and get example uses of each of the instruments. This webinar will be on September 3rd, 2019 at 11 AM CT // 4 PM GMT

I'm still very new to running the Webinars, Training and Events program so this next month will be trial by fire. I asked jlucas if he could take one off of my plate and rscasny also agreed to take another one off my plate later this month. Whoever takes them will do a great job. This month will be more webinars than even we would like so it was kind of a fluke that they fell together at the same time. When I get back from having a couple of days off, I'd like for you to join me for the Amber Pi Webinar:
This webinar will be on September 4th, 2019 at 9 AM CT // 2 PM GMT
Then the very next day:
This webinar will be on September 5th, 2019 at 9:30 AM CT // 2:30 PM GMT
Then the following week is one that I'm also very excited about:
This webinar will be on September 9th, 2019 at 9:30 AM CT // 2:30 PM GMT
Then later that same week will be:
This webinar will be on September 12th, 2019 at 9 AM CT // 2 PM GMT
Later this month there will be Antenna Essentials: Key fundamentals that impact your RF system and steps to optimize antenna performance, I'm currently working with a presenter from Hanhaa and Microsoft for Explore the Possibilities of IoT with Symbisa , and there is a second Molex webinar scheduled at the end of the month with Connector Design Considerations for Advanced Automotive Systems.
Bench Power Supplies with James Lewis!
Speaking of workbenches, if you're into Test & Tools , you need to be checking out WorkBench Wednesdays with baldengineer. Watch Workbench Wednesday 13 - Instrument Basics:Bench Power Supplies to learn how to adjust basic controls like voltage, how "current limiting" works (and why you should use it), and how you can use built-in series or parallel tracking to increase a bench power supply's voltage or current output:
Hand Soldered LED Oscilloscope with Dave Darko!
You can learn about hockey puck sized oscilloscopes during the upcoming Expanding your Test and Measurement Workbench Beyond the Lab with the Analog Discovery 2 and in Project14 | Poll to Decide the October 19' Competition one of the theme options is CPU Math that looks for CPU solutions to mathematical problems such as Lissajous figures or the mathematics of musical notes and polyphonics. In the latest episode of element14 presents, davedarko builds an XY LED Oscilloscope in Episode 408: Hand Soldered LED Oscilloscope. You can use it to look at Lissajous figures and watch oscilloscope music on it:
PIV Dual Camera Hardware Trigger using Arduino
Finally, rsc , who suggested the idea of a CPU Math competition recently solved an interesting problem using an Arduino UNO. He was looking to sync two IDS Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) cameras using a hardware trigger. He could have just connected a function generator to the inputs, but instead chose to use an Arduino UNO for added flexibility. The hardware trigger inputs to these cameras are opto-isolated, so the output from the UNO can be used directly:
That's all for for this week.
So long for just a while...
