Using AI as a partner for thinking and feedback can be a transformative experience if approached with intention and personal engagement. Dr. Le Cunff highlights that AI really needs to be a conversation with AI and emphasizes the importance of first collecting your own data through reflective practices like journaling your thoughts and feelings. She explains that AI excels in seeing patterns in a lot of data which can enhance our self-reflection such as analyzing annual reviews or weekly reflections much faster than we could manually. However, she cautions that you can’t have AI do the job for you, stressing the vital role of human creativity and input. AI should augment that thinking, not replace it, acting as a thinking partner who helps uncover blind spots and develop deeper insights. On a personal level, this means cultivating a mindful dialogue with AI. We must feeding AI thoughtful information about our experiences and using its feedback to enrich our understanding and guide our next steps. By integrating AI thoughtfully, we create a feedback loop where our intuition and curiosity are sharpened making our decision-making and creative processes more insightful and nuanced.

To be honest, all these "thinking about things" and experimentation reminds me of the time I was knee deep in a RAT club (Rationalist). Members had a cult-like mentality, and they are all currently forming an  "AI doomers club" (a group of people who think AGI will bring about an AI apocalypse). This podcast is a much more distilled version.

Then wait for the next one Grinning

I agree with you sometime the old stuff is sold as new by just refurbishing it. Just like old laptop motherboard is sold with new body and called refurbished. Grinning

I listened to this twice.  I cannot say that the content resonated with me.  Disparaging the idea of "discipline" and then talking about a plethora of activities - all that required discipline to complete did not sit well.  Many of the activities mentioned just sounded like remarketing of previous recommended activities - just with new words.  That IS one thing I am mindful of - rebranding the same old ideas and calling it new.  I started to get hopeful of something fresh in the final third - but it just didn't materialize.  For me, this episode lacks substance.  It's all marketing fluff. Disappointed relieved

There is one word that is going to stick in my brain after listening to this episode: metacognition!

    Thinking about thinking.

Interesting Podcast. They have discussed about Toxic environments and how working at Toxic places can reduce our productivity. But she also mentioned that freelancers and content creators have more freedom and they can grow creatively.

Indeed, this is a kind of discovery that we all have to make about ourselves. But a podcast on a community can help us understand that many others also feel the same way I feel about work and workplace.

I have been reading a famous book called "IKIGAI" and this podcast has something similar to the topics that are discussed in that book.!

Holy cow, this particular show actually forced me to stop browsing!
As someone who frequently goes through the Element14 forums, reads countless threads, and works on various projects, I very seldom leave comments. But this time, I just couldn’t help myself.
It seems that Laura’s approach has affected me quite profoundly. Being an ECE student currently in my second year, I once tended to plan my academic work as well as extracurricular activities meticulously. However, all those meticulous plans were inevitably upset by unexpected events, leaving me highly anxious. Laura’s suggestion of approaching uncertainty with curiosity and conducting some small-scale experiments was a breath of fresh air.
Last week, I did one simple experiment, putting aside my phone for an hour immediately after waking up. All I did was playing around with a sensor circuit without any intention of completing it. To be frank, it was quite enjoyable, and even my roommate noticed that I was happier than usual throughout the day.

Definitely giving it a try this coming weekend – the Plus-Minus-Next weekly review from her. The concept feels very straightforward and down-to-earth.
Living in this world where technology changes at such a rapid pace, I think her message about it being alright to not have all the answers, and to continue exploring is extremely valuable.
Thank you so much for your valuable insights, Laura, and thank you Element14 for the podcast. This one inspired me in such an effective way!
Can’t wait for more of these podcasts!

Frequently, curiosity isn't rewarded. in the abstract of trying something new, or against convention, sounds great.
when someone else's curiosity becomes a pain in you butt, you're going to be inclined to push back.
Wonder what the neuroscience of persistence after negative feedback is.
perhaps some of us are less susceptible to negative feedback.

My goals are to satisfy my curiosity, in the most maximally lazy way possible.
I work very hard on that.  I don't care about money, I'm trying to maximize ease. .. which turns out is pretty lucrative.

How many of yall think this discussion is addressing your concerns and feelings?
    To me its completely alien.

I still get annoyed if things don't work at least 80% first try, so I am annoyed and crabby alot :-) Actually if things go too well, it means it wasnt very challenging, so I have tolerate misses or go crazy.  :-)

I used to be annoyed that I didn't come to the right solution to try on the day one. Currently I'm on a fail fast and fail well mindset. I do hope one day I'll celebrate sucessful result much like you Fingers crossed
