At the end of the previous year, I'd been working on an Azure Sphere based project and that drew to a conclusion in January due to the immaturity of the SDK at the time. But the project was reimagined as the enchanted compass using an Arduino MKR1000 and 3D Printed shell.
So I then started on a UV Exposure badge based on the Pocket Beagle, this project was then adapted for a magazine article for Diyode magazine and a custom PCB and ATMega/Arduino board was made. In the process I learnt a bit more about KiCad and Fusion360.
In Feb I made a jumbo LED from some Ikea parts and other bits of scrap which got me another Project14 win.
And in March, HackSpace published my remote display box using an ESP32 and E-Ink display and I started work on a binary keyboard which was published in HackSpace #18
In April I gave a talk on IOT security for the Linuxing in London group.
I ordered a PanaVise with the prize money from the Jumbo LED and reviewed that in May. As mentioned in the review that allowed me to repackage the IOT Compass so it could be taken over to Prague.
There I gave a talk to some techies at Microsoft about the Joy of Making and explained the workings of the compass.
A lot of the summer was taken up with an remote controlled walking Elephant project. This ran on and on but eventually we had a version that the magazine was happy with. Daniel Koch was my very patient collaborator who tried to print and assemble the parts I created. He also wrote up the creation of the servo breakout board as a separate mini project. Again that was designed using KiCad and Fusion360.
There was time for a little fun in the summer and I created a small frying pan to act as a Pi4 heatsink. Along with an actual heatsink crudely milled from a block of aluminium.
In October, I squeezed in a roadtest, both time and space wise. This big stepper motor driver from Trinamic need a big test rig, so I used chunky aluminium beam from an old table, made a mounting bracket and 3D printed a big drum.
The last couple of month's I've been working on a project for another Magazine. Hopefully will be able to announce that next week.
I finished the year on a climax with this exceedingly popular Meme.
