CPLD Controlled Door Lock - Soldering the CPLD

I am now in the process of redesigning the circuit to accommodate a larger pin pitch CPLD, since soldering the 100 pin package proved very difficult and I trashed three of them - admittedly I was better each time but I still ripped up tracks, moved pads, etc. etc. So... back to the drawing board.

I would definitely look into SchmartBoard for a 100-pin TQFP: http://schmartboard.com/index.asp?page=products_qfp&id=68 However, see if you can get away with a Xilinx XC9536XL or XC9572XL in a 44-pin PLCC…

are you really soldier these? Look at Schmart boards or use soidler paste instead. Then use heat to reflow the paste.

I did use solder paste and a heat gun... and soldering iron... I just kept getting bridges and in the end I snapped the legs etc.. I need to experiment some more I think.

From what I see, liberal use of paste and heat with gun or oven until the paste separates. Solder should never be used on the BGA unless you have a rock solid hand (which I do not).
