This is a quick unboxing and power up of a $9 CHIP computer in case anyone had doubts about the Kickstarter promises....

For some reason I cannot insert a video in a blog since the site upgrade, so you will have to follow this link:

dougw I was considering the CHIP computer until I realized: They are only providing VGA support at $9. The upcharge for HDMI was about $15. They charged $5 for each computer ordered. Really? The ram is…

The Pine looks like a great little computer and there are other interesting modules out there as well. I was looking for the absolute lowest cost way to get a full color VGA display, including LCD. I was…

June - wow, they must have a lot of orders - the whole point of the Kickstarter was to get into high volume low-cost production. The campaign had 39,000 backers last time I checked (over $2M). If most of them are getting 2 units, the volume is definitely starting to get up there and it should rapidly become a pretty healthy user community. They did ship mine on the schedule they predicted and they came with an extra clear case already installed - which was a pleasant surprise.

It took Beaglebone Black about 7 months to sell 100,000.

It took Raspberry Pi about 12 months to sell 1 million.

This module has more features (WiFi & Bluetooth) and it is much easier to get running and it costs much less.

Of course Pi Zero is even cheaper and also sells so fast they can't produce enough to meet demand.

It is great to see the trend...

I was kind of surprised.  And, they didn't offer a 'two-fer' deal either.  Actually, I'm glad; I don't know what I am going to do with the ONE, much less if I had TWO?? Couldn't turn down the price though.... I have, what, less than fifty-bucks in it so far??  Sure interested in your progression with this thing.
