Your Ranking: element14 Community Badges, Levels & Points

We want you to know how much we value the problem-solving, innovations and creativity that you bring to the element14 Community. As a way of thanking you for all that you do, we have developed a system for recognising you and your contributions in front of your fellow Engineers, Makers and Hobbyists, and we are regularly working on improving it to acknowledge your efforts!

image

You may have noticed that each of you who have joined the element14 Community has a ranking on your profile to show the level of status that you have reached. Each member starts out as a 'Level 1: Coulomb' with 0 points, and you earn points by participating in the element14 Community. You may also complete missions or actions that allow you to earn achievements that are displayed on your profile to showcase your level of expertise within the Community to your fellow members.

image

image

Below you'll find a list of the available levels listed out in detail and a selection of actions that can earn you points and the available actions for you to complete to earn the achievements.

We are still working on this system as we move from Nitrostudio's Bunchball platform to Verint, and rebuild the system from the ground up!

What do you get for earning points?

Earning points show element14 Community staff how active you are in the Community, and are often used to steer decisions as to whether or not you're selected for a RoadTest or Design Challenge, along with your demonstrated knowledge and competency!

Achievements and Points also go into consideration for the annual Member Awards & Year in Review and becoming a Top Member of the element14 Community.

Are these all of the badges available?

Some are exclusive and time-limited! Others are still in development since our great website migration as we moved from Jive to Verint in November of 2021 and others are archived because of a change in how the achievements system works. However we're always looking to create new achievements and badges that community members can earn! Congratulations if you were one of the lucky members to have been a part of the Community for the past 10+ years to get these elusive achievements!

Levels Explained

Below is a list of the available levels and the minimum number of points you must have in order to reach the next level.  Every member starts out with 0 points, a Level 1: Coulomb.  The levels are a tribute to a historical figure that’s made significant contributions in electronics history.  We encourage you to learn more about the engineer that represents your level by clicking on the “Get the Full History Lesson” links below.

Level

Points Needed The History Behind the Level

Level 1: Coulomb

Alessandro Volta was a physicist and entrepreneur said to have created the first battery in the world: the voltaic pile.  For his work discovering the proportional relationship between potential and charge, the unit of electric potential is known as the volt. Get the Full History Lesson

Level 3: Ampere

image

1,000

French physicist Andre-Marie Ampere founded the science of electromagnetism.  You will still hear his name mentioned in modern electronics due to the unit for measuring electric current, the Ampere (Amp) being named after him.  Get the Full History Lesson

Level 4: Ohm

image

2,500

Georg Ohm is credited for the discovery of the proportional relationship between current and voltage, and thus gives his name to the unit of resistance: the ohm.  Ohm was also a high school teacher, using the Voltaic Pile to develop his understanding of electricity. Get the Full History Lesson

Level 5: Faraday

1,000,000 Hertha Ayrton, an electrical engineer with a background in mathematics and the first female to read their own paper before the Institution of Electrical Engineers on 'The Hissing of the Electric Arc'.
Points for Activities

Below you'll notice a list of the points awarded for each activity completed in element14 Community.  Points help you climb to the next level in the Community.

We will adjust and change these points, and they can be revoked or added retro-actively to keep balance to the force. We won't reveal the points of every action to you.

Active Badges and Missions

You may also notice that some members have special achievements/badges. These badges are meant to help you easily identify Community members with specific qualifications more easily or reward a member for a special achievement. Some have been acquired from special events or by being helpful to other members or members of staff, or perhaps are related to an in-joke! Sometimes you also get points with them.

I must admit... I'm not as diligent about logging in each day now that there's no ranking systems. Odd note: This post sat unsent for weeks until I returned to the page. Clicking away didn't delete it…
