What will be the most important technology over the next 2 years?

There are lots of exciting things happening in technology today. Which one are you most excited about? We've gathered some of the topics engineers are talking about and listed them below.   • Electric cars!  Nothing says "I take your new technology seriously" like forbidding a manufacturer from selling a safe product in your state.  I'm speaking of Tesla, which is banned from selling its cars in Texas and New Jersey because it threatens the status quo dealership business model.

     

    Quick show of hands: would you prefer (1) buying a car from a dealership or (2) getting a root canal?  Aha!  You did have to think about it.  IMO, a root canal takes less time, is less painful, costs a lot less, and you don't feel like you've been cheated.

    Your timing is uncanny! I listened to a Planet Money episode this weekend which exactly addressed this topic. This might be the only time I've actually shouted at my radio. It's a cronyistic, inefficient system designed to favor incumbents and thwart startups. You can listen to the episode here.
