That sounds like a cool project. What all did you use for it?

used and arduino, DHT11 for temp and humidity sensing, soil resistance sensor, a water pump driven by relay, a fan also driven by relay, and a GSM shield for status reporting.

it was installed in a greenhouse to automate the watering of the plants

    Greetings Tyler,

I've used an Arduino Uno to control my outdoor Christmas lights for the last 2 years. The 5 stings contain individually addressable RGB LED units (GE G35)

Does the GSM shield only need a SIM card to work? I have an old blackberry that isn't activated anymore. Could I take the SIM card out of that to use in this shield?

    Steve,

That's quite interesting. Do you have a photoresistor set to turn the lights on or what is triggering them to turn on?

    Tyler

I'm curious why you're asking the question.?

I know there are many documented projects using Arduino, which would give someone the idea its very versatile, and has many uses.

There are lots of books (for free) detailing projects that cater for novice to expert.

The search here is not 100% and you do tend to unable to filter the projects, but even so there is plenty of projects showing in

mcb1 I am just curious as to what other people have done, to talk about their projects. I have many projects in mind that I am going to be working on. Just wanted to see what kinds of stuff other people were doing, not necessarily for ideas just to get them to talk about it. That is all.

Okay so care to share or detail the ideas....

You may find others come out to discuss similar ideas.

Greetings Tyler, actually no, I apply power to the Arduino and the lights when I want them to run, I would use a timer otherwise.

The GE G35 lights use addressable modules. The Arduino send serial data to each individual light, or pixel initially to set the addresses, then commands what color and intensity to illuminate each one. A common ground is required but, the power supplies are the original supplies that came with the lights. There is no way the Arduino could provide the current necessary to run the lights. If you look up Arduino and G35 you will find lots of information on the subject. Also, adafruit.com has addressable LED strings that work well with the Arduino and look great.
