Here's a free training course from Microsoft about using Visual Studio with the Arduino
I'm not sure of the licensing implications but there does seem to be a free download of Visual Studio Community edition

so Someone has to say this
why is this Beta on a site nothing to do with Atmel... seems a little suspisious
http://atmel-studio.s3-website-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/
Not even remotly like
http://www.atmel.com/tools/atmelstudio.aspx
where I would expect to see a beta from Atmel
one word
Be Cautious
I have recieved no emails from Atmel regarding a beta and I am on their subscriber list for Atmel Studio
Dont say you were not warned, I hope I am wrong
If it was supposed to be a restricted download page, then they forgot to lock it for me and Google's crawlers.
it is Atmel's website and it is Studio 7 beta.
this is how I was pointed to the beta:
I googled for this string: atmel studio 7 beta
That gave me a link to
http://www.avrfreaks.net/forum/atmel-studio-70-beta
Where this frequent poster from Atmel announced it:
Im still scheptical, nothing on Atmels main site for Atmel Studio, still worth looking at
I tried it (meolsen on avrfreaks is from Atmel, that source is sound and genuine).
All installed, but I couldn't yet create a project for the SAMA5D4. I couldn't find that chip (or anything SAMAX related) in the choice of devices.
i was checking and even the version 6.2 has support upto SAMA4Dx, so I would expect SAMA5 to be there soon
I agree with Peter. I am using the AVR Studio 6 and its subversions almost regularly and every update has always been notified. I suppose that the version 7 is not yet for production but only a separate build for beta testing. It is not the worth to try this beta just together all the rest of the environment - almost complex IMHO - included the Arduino IDE libraries etc. If it is not just to try (at least) developing on the SAMA4Dx I suggest to not use this version 7.
As what I have experiences - in the Arduino world usage - I have also discovered that all works fine only if you install the right version of the AVR Studio in conjunction with the Arduino IDE that is declared for full compatibility. So the further updates should go in parallel: Arduino IDE and AVR studio updates and related plugin updates. If not, all become async and the system generates a lot of issues and errors during compilation (I think that it is also a question of the C/C++ compiler, make settings and so on). At this point, I have discovered with my personal experience and errors that the updates should be managed with a lot of attention.

Can you post a bitmap on how to start a project with 6.2 and SAMA4D? I may be doing this all wrong (or may be confused by the device names available when creating a project).
I'm actually eager to check out this Beta version. It could be a nice addition to the evaluation of the SAMA5D4 Xplained Ultra board that I'm using for Enchanted Objects.
