How can I power the Arduino Board or Raspberry Pi Board without connecting it to a computer

Hi

 

My name is Orlando and please forgive me if this seems like a stupid question but

I am only a beginner. This question i have came from an idea that if I had made a robot

i would not want it to always be connect to a computer, because it would limit movement.

So how can i power my robot or project without it always being connected to a computer while

still containing the code.

 

I am not sure but i think when code is uploaded to a board it permanent stays they till over wise

but I am not 100% sure

    These are two examples of battery packs, the second will power any 5v unit you need and for quite some time, there are many others but this will get you started with all these things, its about perspective…

    I assume then you also need to be disconnected from a wall adapter for the same reason ?

     

    if so then a simple rechargeable battery pack would do the trick, the Arduino's do not have a tight power requirement like the TI Launch pads and you can feed them with a range of input from 5-12 or more volts

     

    if you check on Element 14 web site or Adafruit you will find battery packs for the Arduinos (Google "Battery Pack for Arduino" )

    Raspberry Pi stores all its software on the SD card, which is non-volatile storage and stores programs and data while power is off.  If you're running a Linux-based OS, before you power down or reset you usually need to give a "shutdown" or at least a "sync" command so that RAM buffers are written to the SD card, otherwise you could leave it the file system in a corrupted state.

     

    RasPi uses a lot more power than an Arduino, especially a Model B.  The Model A uses less power since it doesn't have the USB/Ethernet chip.

     

    Search for "battery operated Raspberry Pi" in the search box at the top of the page for how various people have powered RasPi using batteries.

    with all these things, its about perspective, if your driving a robot, the power the controller will take compared to servos and motors is insignificant, you will end up building/buying a power pack for the robot and may as well include an output for the controller with it or as a risk mitigation power the controller separately so it remains functional even if your flatten the main motor power

    Do you know of any power/battery pack which are as small or slim as a battery for a phone.

    well as it happens I am currently reviewing one right now as a road test image, this would work for you, not shield compatible but can easily be integrated as it uses I2C and simple GPIO. I have already coded and used an UNO on it
