Multiple servo control...setting expectations

There is a rather cool thing called magnorail which I have seen with tiny animated bicycles. Might be able to do something with walking animals?

It sounds like you've just added scope - to create barnyard sounds that coincide with the servo sounds. AT least you already have trigger code.

Glad you tried it out! I wasn't sure how it would go. Nice to see all the hard work with the mechanics work well in this case with the code+timings!

I think this could be feasible with a Pi Pico.

I'm thinking that if each animal sound was stored as a WAV, then a Pi Pico could mix in each animal sound as it is triggered. The Arduino code could be modified to store trigger times as part of the animation sequence perhaps, and send that to Pi Pico. That would be a nice 2-microcontroller solution. It would be attractive to do it this way because any number of animal sounds could be made simultaneously, as long as there's enough storage for the sounds. 2 seconds of sound for each animal, at 24ksps, would use up half a Mbyte for 6 animals, so would comfortably fit in a Pi Pico. If there were (say) two or more cows, then that would only count as one animal but it could be played for all cows simultaneously at either different times, or even partially overlapping times. Even slight frequency changes for animals of the same type could be possible as a stretch goal! But that's harder..

Stretch goal #2: Stereo, allowing a parameter that specifies where the animal is on the board, so that the sound can be positioned approximately. It's all building up to a major project with the stretch goals though.. maybe could be used as a commercial sound fx module for exhibitions.

BD you always bring something to the conversation that is neat! I don't think I can fit the mechanics in the white cow. 

I would love to work at the Model Railroad layout in Germany where you could actually play with this stuff for a living. I would have to share my salary with you, you did write the code.

My thought is a JQ6500 with a few mp3 files. I have to learn very little to accomplish that.

Nice. The Magnorail setup uses a clear disc against the road surface as a drive wheel for animating the legs.  

With two discs, you get four leg drive...

Perhaps add a drive belt to keep them in sync though otherwise it could be 'Ministry of Silly Walks' time.

I had a quick go at it anyway, with a Pi Pico, just out of curiosity, I'll write it up in a blog post in case it's of any interest.

The code implements a load of trigger inputs (8 for now, but more could be added), and whenever any of them goes low (this could be swapped around to detect triggers going high) then a particular sound is played out, and simultaneous sounds can be played (and simultaneous sounds from the same type of animal too).

I tried it with some animal sound recordings found on a random website, it sounds like something from Dr Dolittle, when a load of animals are making their noises simultaneously!

I didn't know what animals to use, so I've got cat, dog, hen, rooster, sheep, pig, cow, snake and goat and wolf : ) I should have added a horse I guess! Anyway I'll write up how to add any custom sound.
