Can Arduino Uno R3 board remove chip on the board?

Hello

First off, got my Elegoo Uno board as Christmas gift, so this is all new to me.

Here is my problem, I built an motor project and the chip has been programmed. Can I remove the chip from the Uno board?

Or can I placing a new chip onto the Uno board?

Best regards.

Why is it that you want to replace the chip? If you just want to do a different project, the part can be reprogrammed using a new sketch. And you can always revert back to the motor project as long as…

This is referenced in the link I provided and shows more detail as to how to build an Arduino on a Breadboard. https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Standalone

If your board looks like this with the big black ATMega328P in a DIP package, then the chip can be removed:

If it looks like this (Arduino Uno R3 SMD) with a small package, it is surface mount and soldered to the board, and thus not designed to be removed:

Image result for arduino uno R3

If you remove the chip, be aware that the chip cannot be used "on its own". The chip needs a clock source at the least - in Arduino, this means having a 16Mhz crystal with two decoupling capacitors to ground.

Also note you cannot just replace the ATMega328P with any other ATMega328P without first burning the bootloader to the chip. The bootloader is a small piece of software that resides on the microcontroller which allows you to reprogram it via serial/USB. Brand new ATMega328P chips are blank (unless someone has programmed the bootloader for you). If you have a few wires and a second Arduino, you can use ArduinoISP to program the bootloader onto a blank chip - but if you don't do this and just insert a blank ATMega328P into your board, you will find you can't program it!
