Serial device not recognized by zedboard

Hello!

I need your help, recently I have installed Ubuntu 18.04 on my zedboard but I cannot make work a serial device connected to the USB OTG port. When I connect a pen drive, wireless keyboard or wireless wifi adapter, everything works well, but when I connect a device which must be seen as a "tty", nothing appears. The device is listed with the command "lsusb" but no UART port appears.

Do I have to configure something? What am I missing?

So, the only thing I want to do is connect an Arduino to send and receive data through the USB-OTG port, or is there another solution or port to do that?

Hi there,

Sounds like there is a driver issue. If you can't get around the driver over USB, you could in the PetaLinux flow easily add a serial port into the PL and then use that as an actual SERIAL port, not a virtual port over USB.
However, I can't support Ubuntu, I'm not sure that flow you posted supports this.

You might have good luck searching the web for others that have tied their Arduino to an Ubuntu PC and leverage that to get this to work? You mentioned that this shows up in lsusb, so I assume with a driver you'd be all set.

Hi! Thank you for your answer, but finally I need the virtual com port working. If I execute the command "usbserial" it gives the error "command not found". And it seems that in the kernel there are not included the VCP drivers. So how can I compile those drivers?

If that can be done under petalinux, is there any image with VCP drivers included? Or any tutorial?

I am new with zedboard and I am a bit lost.
