No DP output after booting.

riltonf
riltonf over 6 years ago

I'm using the stock linux image from the instruction manual to get the Ultra96 v2 started. I'm using the active DP to HDMI cable from amazon that was suggested. My ultra96 boots up and I see a message that it's starting to boot along with cursor. Then it goes black and there's no image. So the cable works, but the linux doesn't show a graphical nor terminal view when booted up.

I've reformatted the sd several times but still the same issue.

Is the only way to get an image up is to recreate my own petalinux from scratch? Or am I missing some settings first?

Thanks,

Ril

The new image worked. While at it I redownloaded the old image noted on the box, and it started to work. It seems my image was corrupted during downloading. I should cover my basics next time before jumping…

Couldn't connect to the board, seems like the image I put on was corrupt. A fresh download fixed it.

Will you please let us know which specific miniDP-to-HDMI Active Adapter that you are using?

Does your monitor support one of these 3 resolutions? Do you have a different monitor that you could try?

    • 1920x1080 or
    • 1280x720

If the board is booting, then re-imaging the SD Card won't help. The most common issues we see is that the Adapter isn't really Active, or the Adapter just doesn't work, or the monitor doesn't support the limited resolution.

Cable is: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FM50QJC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_ep_dp_U8xKBbXFB92BE from your response on:Ultra96-v2 mini-DP to HDMI adapter

My monitor supports those resolutions as well as higher ones. Unfortunately, I don't have a spare I can try out on.

I'm getting text stating the board is booting on the screen (not uart terminal), but after a few seconds it vanished and there's no signal input. The cable is an active one.

What causes this discrepancy? I'd presume it should work on any screens that support the corresponding resolution, but it seems to be a hit or miss.

Yes, that is the exact cable that I use successfully all the time. I'm not sure why the discrepancy. Are you certain you are using the Ultra96-V2 image? Would you like to try the latest one that isn't posted publicly yet?

    http://avnet.me/ultra96-v2-oob-8GB

Do you have the JTAG/UART Pod connected? What do you see in the terminal?

If you were trying to boot an Ultra96-V1 image on Ultra96-V2, then it would fail during the boot process after configuring the hardware. That would make it appear like the display was about to work but then fail. Likewise, if you put the 16GB Delkin image on a slightly smaller SanDisk card, then that isn't always clean either, which causes the Linux boot to fail. Again, the display would start to work but then fail when the Linux boot failed.

Can you SSH into the board and examine files like a log?

Assuming the above is true, try this command:

    tail -n 100 /var/log/dmesg.log

    or

    cat  /var/log/dmesg.log

Apologies, I'm currently away on a business trip. Won't be back until October 8th. I'll try that out as soon as I can.

Thanks for reporting back! I'm glad to hear that Active cable is working for others as well.
