OOB Demo Fail - Serial Connection Gone

Anonymous-831639

Hi all,

Just opened up my new UltraZed-EV Starter Kit and followed the QuickStart Guide Instructions for getting the Out of Box Demo with a blinking light flashing.

Only problem is neither Terra Term nor PuTTy show any data over the connection as described, and there's no blinking light. I triple checked that all the switches were right, drivers downloaded, bit rate and other settings were correct, but I can't seem to resolve the issue. Any thoughts or tips on how to rectify the situation? Thanks!

OK, a couple of things come to mind. The UltraZed-EV will report two virtual COM ports for TeraTerm or PuTTY to use - have you tried using both of them? Only one of them will be the active STDIO UART.…

Hi there, Also, make certain the boot switches are set properly. If you are not careful, I have seen some customers have the inverse of what the switches SHOULD be set to. --Dan

It sounds like the UltraZed-EV SOM may not be fully seated in the connectors to the carrier board.  These connectors are very stiff and it takes a lot of force to get them to fully mate.  Can you try re-seating the SOM onto the carrier?

Hi Tom - thanks for the tip - after inspection it did look like some of the connectors could be seated better (talk about stiff, you weren't joking!)

However, that hasn't seemed to ameliorate the situation either. I even completely disconnected and disassembled everything and put it back together to make sure it was seated correctly. No dice.

Thanks for the follow up Tom!

As for both ports - yes I did notice that there were two, but was unaware that only one will be active STDIO UART! Unfortunately, neither one indicates any sort of OOB demo or boot up....

Sometimes "rudimentary" is what we all need = ) I for one, am not seeing the blue DONE LED firing... the red PS USER LED is on, but the PS DONE LED on the UltraZed-EV, in the bottom left corner of the board, it is not on.. thoughts on next steps? Glad you thought to ask!
