Azure sphere problem, not working

bfgelectronicspower
bfgelectronicspower over 6 years ago

Hello, i recived my azure sphere free kit, but after 3 minute of idle, the board stopped working. Now I don't had 3.3v on board, and if I stop the buck converter via epen pin and I put an eternal 3.3v source, the external 3.3v source heats up a lot. By checking with the multimeter, it's a short between 3.3v and GND

This fix must remain a last resort. Before this, apply the steps recommended by Peter Fenn: https://www.hackster.io/contests/SecureEverything/discussion/posts/5218#comment-108593

    Hi Baciu,

I'm sorry you're having issues with your kit.  You should be able to contact the site that shipped it to you for a replacement.

    Brian

This problem solved! Thanks to David Lopez Rubio (https://www.hackster.io/contests/SecureEverything/discussion/posts/5218?utm_campaign=new_comment_for_feed_post&utm_mediu… ) the solution is simple and with minimal costs and repair time. With usual tools and a widely available MPS Buck Regulator 5V to 3.3 V and 2A, anyone can fix it. If you have a hot-air soldering station: better final aspect. The Azure Sphere board, which is a marvel of technology, works again as new.

It is unlikely that the onboard DC/DC regulator will have failed! For small number of kits where a power issue has been reported, the cause is more likely the high threshold of the Starter Kit's under-voltage lockout circuit.

Use the following troubleshooting steps to determine if this is the cause of 3.3V power failure on your Starter Kit:

    1. Try a different USB cable
    2. Connect power from a different 5V source (eg. cell phone charger)
    3. Try connecting the USB cable to a different computer
    4. Avoid using an unpowered USB hub.

Same issue here. Checked with multi meter and indeed there is short between 3.3v and GND. Right now I do not have tools to check solution from David Lopez Rubio (https://www.hackster.io/contests/SecureEverything/discussion/posts/5218?utm_campaign=new_comment_for_feed_post&utm_mediu… ) .

I unsoldered the regulator, and I put an 3.3 ldo voltage regulator.
