My Azure Sphere is Not Getting Power.

mrburnwal over 5 years ago

Hello Everyone, I have ordered an Azure Sphere Starter Kit last month from element14. Today when I cloned a piece of code from Github and ran it on Visual Studio and after it was working Suddenly My Azure Sphere stopped getting power from my Laptop. I thought it can be a problem from my laptop port but after changing port and performing all the troubleshoot steps too this issues didn't resolved and i don't know what should I do next. Please help me guys. _/\_

Do you get any lights? Yes, maybe other issues. Otherwise you can look at CR2032 battery which can be fitted to the board to power . Read carefully: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure-sphere/hardware…

That's likely not credible - it's from a guy who thinks 20,000 of the devices are faulty. He borrowed some multimeter from a repair store. If you look at his comments, his test was: The current goes over…

Thank You for your attention but I have Azure Sphere Starter Kit and you have sent documentation for another board.

That is a Microsoft reference board they use for there testing. But I believe there is still a spot for connecting a CR2032 battery.

Board is completely dead. No troubleshoot steps worked.

Then the U5 LDO is gone.

Update: after checking the sources, I find they were not collaborated thoroughly with hard pictures or technical details. So ignore my comments. Sorry for the confusion...

    Thanks

    Hi Clem,

What is this based on? The only reference I can find, is that someone took the board to a repair store and they checked something with a multimeter. Is there any other reference to U5 causing the issue?

Well that only reference was How to replace the regulator (U5) on AVNET Azure Sphere Starter Kit!

image Please read this with a grain of salt...

That's likely not credible - it's from a guy who thinks 20,000 of the devices are faulty. He borrowed some multimeter from a repair store.

If you look at his comments, his test was:

The current goes over 5.xxx on component C8.

For a start, it's not possible to measure current in this way on a board with a multimeter. Maybe he meant voltage. There's nothing wrong with the voltage going beyond 5.0V slightly, but it's impossible for it to exceed much beyond that (maybe 5.2V?) since the board is powered via USB. Finally, U5 is has overload protection even if current draw was high. I'm not saying it couldn't have failed, but it's impossible to assume it from that reference.
