I cannot make my FRDM-KE02Z40M module communicate via its OpenSDA USB port.

I have installed the P&E driver.

Under the device heading of Jungo, I am supposed to see two devices "WinDriver",

and, "PEMicro OpenSDA Debug", but I only ever see the former.

When I run the Basic "GDB Server Kinetis", and I select the
"OpenSDA  Embedded Debug - USB Port" interface, I see no Port in the

Port drop down menu.  But, in Device Manager, I see a port called

"OpenSDA - CDC Serial Port (http://www.pemicro.com/opensda) (COMx)"

The COM port number varies, depending on how many times I install, uninstall, and so on.

I have been trying for weeks to sort this out.  At the moment, I am approaching the point

of considering a total redesign, with the aim of removing anything remotely related to

Freescale.  If I had any idea, that I would have had such trouble, I would have chosen

something else.

    Hi David,

FRDM-KE02Z comes with the MSD Flash Programmer OpenSDA Application driver preinstalled with "MSD-FRDM-KE02Z_Pemicro_v111.SDA" through which you can only test with pre-compiled example binaries which are in *.srec file format, but you cannot debug the board.

with MSD application driver you might have seen below screen shot of device manager as shown

    image

To debug the board you need to load/install the board with "DEBUG-APP_Pemicro_v106.SDA" driver file.

Follow the below instruction to do. (you can refer to "FRDM-KE02Z Quick Start Guide.pdf")

First download the quick start package from below Freescale web link:

    Enter OpenSDA Bootloader Mode

    1) Unplug the USB cable if attached

    2) Press and hold the Reset button (SW1)

    3) Plug in a USB cable between a USB host and the OpenSDA USB connector.

    4) Release the Reset button.

A removable drive should now be visible in the host file system with a volume label of BOOTLOADER. You are now in OpenSDA Bootloader mode.

    Load an OpenSDA Application

    1) Locate the OpenSDA Applications folder in the downloaded FRDM-KE02Z Quick Start Package

    2) Copy & paste or drag & drop the Debug Application driver file (DEBUG-APP_Pemicro_v106.SDA) to the BOOTLOADER drive.

    3) Unplug the USB cable and plug it in again.

You are now running the board in Debug mode and device manager looks as below:

    image

Now you can see  two devices "WinDriver",and, "PEMicro OpenSDA Debug" under Jungo.

Now in KDS tool you can configure the board in "Debug configuration" window under "GDB PEMicro Interface Debugging"  it looks as shown below screen shot.

    image

The OpenSDA Embedded Debug USB port gets recognized.

Hope this helps you in configuring your board.

    Regards

    Bheema

Thank you so much.  Your instructions were so clear and easy to follow.

    I was going crazy.

If you are ever in Sydney, let me know.  I owe you a meal (at least)
