Using cy8ckit-042 as programmer for external board

Dear All,

I would like to know if it's possible and some reference for using cy8ckit-042 as programmer for external board.

I have the development kit and I would like to program with it an external having psoc 4 board that I have made.

Correct, the PSoC 4 Pioneer Kit can be used to program an external PSoC 4 only (does not support PSoC 5LP or PSoC 3 at this point..) See section A4 of the kit user guide: http://www.cypress.com/?docID…

PSoC 4/external PSoC program/debug header

R32, R33, and R34

Unsolder the resistors to disconnect SWD lines from the PSoC 4.

Use J6 to connect and program an external PSoC

what would be cheapest option to program and debug PSoC5LP ?

Since for my project i used PSoC5LP, but i didn't know that psoc4 dev kit can only program PSoC4. ( Well, that would be a lesson don't take things for granted )

Your options are:
using a MiniProg3, which would be the safest solution
building a FX1-based programmer (or an FX2-based one)
roll your own solution with a MCU, based on Cypress documentation (this can then only do programming)
If we are talking about the PSoC5 on the Pioneer kit, this one has a bootloader for programming. You could go with the 3rd solution for programming it into your PSoC though.
