Regarding the very cool challenge, it sounds like both teams will have a fun time thinking up ideas. Maybe we can have some fun coming up with ideas too.

As a start: since Leeds has a famous inventor heritage (as does Chicago according to wikipedia!) such as the amazing John Harrison born just a few miles away, and the fact they like lasers, how about a multi-beaglebone-synced lightshow in the form of clock hands, or a clock face, as a remembrance of him, that could be seen from the sky (maybe filmed from a propeller plane). It would take some co-ordination, but local govt may help out!

  • Coming up with fun ideas really would be fun, indeed.  Worth noting though that many of the things we might consider "fun" because they're nice little technical challenges might not be seen as "fun" in a wider audience.  And coming up with awesome ones is not at all easy.  Something to think about overnight!

     

    PS. Apparently Leeds Hackspace's project is robotic table football, not at all easy!  This could be quite a good choice in terms of mass appeal, since football (soccer) has a huge worldwide audience.  Even the out-takes should be fun, if they leave in the soundtrack containing audience reaction. image

    That's very cool. The mechanics, multiple high speed motor control with feedback, vision and processing all sounds interesting and challenging. I wonder if it is robot v. robot or robot v. person. Maybe get a pro player from a real rival team to play the Leeds robotic table football system : -)
