BBB + LCD3 Cape Boot Portrait Orientation

Former Member
Former Member over 12 years ago

Caveat: Total Newb.  I know NOTHING about linux, but for my purposes I don't think much is needed (perhaps I am wrong, I am a Newb).

Recently got a BBB and LCD3 (TFT) cape.  Flashed to latest angstrom so lcd3 would work, all good their.

Trying to make a kiosk if sorts.

I need the BBB to boot in portrait mode, rather than landscape.

How do I do this??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Basically you have to modify two files:

    To set the screen orientation

    "nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf"

Look for this section and add the line in bold (options are "CW" (90deg), UD (180deg), "CCW" (270deg)):

    Section "Device"

Identifier "Builtin Default fbdev Device 0"

         Driver "fbdev"

         Option "Rotate" "CCW"

    EndSection

Ctrl-X to exit nano and Enter to save without modifying the file name.

    To set the touchscreen orientation:

    "nano /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf"

Look for this section and add the line(s) in bold (i set my screen CCW and had to swap both axes and invert the x-axis)

    Section "InputClass"

         Identifier "evdev touchscreen catchall"

         MatchIsTouchscreen "on"

         MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"

         Option "SwapAxes" "True"

         Option "InvertX" "True"

         Driver "evdev"

    EndSection

Ctrl-X to exit nano and Enter to save without modifying the file name.

Tested on BBB + LCD3 Cape with Angstrom version 3.8.6

Did the touchscreen work before this change, and if yes could you post the modifications you made to the conf files? Otherwise how is the touchscreen not working/acting funny?
