Custom SBC based on BBB

Does anyone have any experience with building their own SBC design based on the BeagleBone Black ?

For example I was wanting to take the schematics and build a replica but with some changes. Another ethernet port, much less breakout of the GPIO etc, on board some specific connectors and for sensors etc.

I'm pretty new, and just wonder if anyone has done anything on this scale.

We thought about it, but its just cheaper to buy the BBB since it is mass produced, unless you are talking about very high quantities, the components to embed it cost more than the interconnect.
