No Serial Ports after Installing BB View

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

I installed BB View on the Beaglebone Black with the latest angstrom.

After installing the display kernel the display works well.

But now the serial ports (uart 1 - 4, ttyO1 - ttyO4) do not work anymore.

Before installing thy worked with my software.

Can somebody help?

At least some of the pins needed for the BB-View conflict with the pins needed for the uarts, so having everything working at the same time will not be possible.

You may be able to have a subset that will work together, but this will depend on what software you're using.  For example, if you're using an overlay for the BB-View and another for all of the serial ports, then all it takes is one pin to conflict and one of the overlays will not load.

Glad I am not the only person with this problem .... shame the BB View takes all the UARTS out .... looks like I will need to fudge it with a USB to serial adapter image Anyone know if the LCD7 Cape is as greedy with things off hand?

Any of the LCD capes will use a set of the same pins, they're the same as are used for HDMI, nothing much you can do about those.

The rest is down to how many buttons, leds and such like that the cape has.  Things like buttons and LEDS could be physically removed and then taken out of the devicetree if you need those pins for other purposes..

Interesting idea looking at buttons etc its something I hadn't considered and looking at the info on the cape pin out I could by removing two buttons free up 2 UARTs time to look at rebuilding the kernel imagelooks like another "interesting" job.
