Beaglebone Black and the Motorola Atrix Lapdock.

Former Member

Hi.

I have been trying to get a Beaglebone Black to work with a Motorola Atrix Lapdock, and have run into a problem.

Hopefully, one of the element14 community may be able to help.

The Beaglebone works fine plugged directly into a monitor, the Lapdock works fine with a Raspberry Pi, but when the Beaglebone is attached to the Lapdock, I get a Beaglebone splash screen as it starts to boot then a black screen and nothing else.

The HDMI signal is getting through, the Beaglebone boots quietly in the background but nothing else shows on screen.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

James.

Thank you so much. Last night, I cut the Data(−); (white wire) line and then it well worked the keyboard in my BeagleBone Black.

There's some information about this in the BeagleBoard group at Google Groups.  I searched for "Lapdock" and got this: https://groups.google.com/forum/#%21searchin/beagleboard/Lapdock

Among other things, it seems that Ångström rev 2013-06-20 broke some of the HDMI functionality, whereas 2013-05-08 works.  I didn't search further, but you might find something useful there.  If you do, please reply!  I've been using Lapdock successfully with RasPi and intend to try BeagleBone one of these days now that I picked up an HDMI cape.

    Excuse me.

When I was docking the Motorola Atrix Lapdock with BeagleBone Black to boot, the keyboard and the mouse pad didn't work but the screen well worked. Could help me the solution to work? My Raspberry Pi2 well worked with the lapdock.

I haven't gotten around to trying an Atrix Lapdock with BeagleBone.  I've only used it with RasPi Model B rev 1.0 with USB fuses replaced with higher current versions.

If the screen is coming up, it means that RasPi is getting power and the HDMI connection is OK.  If you're not getting USB packets between RasPi and the Lapdock, the most likely culprit is that one of the USB data lines is not making good connection, or they've been swapped, or you're connecting to the wrong BeagleBone USB port (see below).

Here's a general description of how Atrix Lapdock works with RasPi, with lots of links: http://elinux.org/RPi_Screens#Motorola_Atrix_Lapdock

Here are the last two comments on my "HDMI cable work-around" 'blog, in which someone has a similar problem: http://www.element14.com/community/community/raspberry-pi/blog/2012/09/27/raspberry-pi-lapdock-hdmi-cable-work-around#start=72

As I said in my response to that question, I've been having intermittent keyboard/mouse problems which go away if I wiggle the Micro USB adapter.  This means I have an iffy connection.

Can you describe the USB cable or cables you're using to connect your Atrix Lapdock to your BeagleBone, and where they're plugged in?  I believe the Lapdock's Micro USB data lines must go to BeagleBone's USB A Host port, whereas Lapdock's USB +5V power probably needs to go to the BeagleBone +5V power jack.  I don't know if BeagleBone's Mini USB Device port's +5V input allows enough current for reliable operation.
