Is it possible to add more RAM?

Former Member
Former Member over 10 years ago

Looking to buy a relatively cheap SBC to set up as a server running a memory intensive application. Been looking at a bunch, but it seems most are limited to just 1gb of RAM. Ideally I'd like to have 4GB if not more. This is the reason for my question.

Any suggestions?

balearicdynamics I just saw the video and the compute module is 512MB Ram and 4GB eMMC storage. Sorry to differ. Clem

Mmmhhh... It's true, and it's a detail I have not noted following the enthusiasm seeing the 4G 1600 DDR ... Sure that this can't be used as extra-memory ? But we don't know yet the details of the project…

I've just seen this question, There are some beginning to come onto the market but I imagine it will be a bit of a wait for 4GB systems still.

You have to wait for another 5 years earliest. There is no such demand on SBC for such a high ram. SBC are made for small science project, not as your home PC.

Do not believe those die hard fans say, check for yourself on the specifications and reality facts. If SBC can do that, Intel and others had closed down. All those PC makers had closed shops.

Software and data will be bigger time after time so CPU, storage, memory, all must improve to cope.

What some people wants, big booobs, big ssss, big sucker, at $10 is not a reality. They will just ended up buying a disappointment item. If they wait, they will have to wait for many years which just wasting time.

Just to let you know, do not listen to those marketing gimmicks and lies. They even have people creating fake accounts and acted as customers who swear by hell how good it is. I am also been cheated by those gimmicks from some SBC companies. If you really want to buy, buy from an old stable company like Raspberry. Other brands are all advised to keep away. Kickstarter are also advised to keep away because they do not bear any responsibility if you are being cheated. Kickstarter is a money maker business company too.
