Anyone have a link to a ~3.5” touchscreen for the BBAI that includes instructions for device setup particularly for the beagle board? I’m looking for a solution that doesn’t require cobbling my own cape from data sheets.
Thanks,
Sean

The smallest Farnell sell is 4.3Farnell sell is 4.3", if you found a screen that operated on the same ribbon interface then you could re-purpose the cape.

4.3 LCD Display Cape for Beaglebone Board (White, Black, or Wireless)
Looking at the descriptions, it mentions an image to use - but does not mention the BBAI. Will that image work with the BBAI?
I haven't tried it, it may be the case that the support files are sat in that image and not separate - though usually Farnell's support have the files and you have to ask them.
Let me know how you get on with it.
Coincidentally you're not the only one looking at using this touchscreen 4.3 LCD Display Cape for Beaglebone Board - Review
My spidey-sense told me to cancel the order, so I did so by email due to no weekend hours for phone. I just got an auto email replay that they'd get back with me.
Four days later it showed up in the mail. It did not work. Just a blank white screen.
Will try calling for a return tomorrow unless someone out there knows how to get it to work.

Items with the beaglebone are not 'plug and play', in that you can't connect it straight away and expect it to work.
You have to manipulate and setup the appropriate device tree to ensure it's mapping the pinouts appropriately for it to work. If this isn't something you want to go into, that's fair enough.

I was looking for a board that came with instructions for BBAI device setup so I didn't have to reverse engineer it.
The flyer in the box pointed to a 5 year old webpage with no device tree instructions - just a disclaimer that support for other BeagleBone products will come at a later date and a 5 year old image for the BeagleBone Black.
Appears to be abandonware.

Here's the device tree overlay for the cape you're using:
https://github.com/beagleboard/bb.org-overlays/blob/master/src/arm/BB-CAPE-DISP-CT4-00A0.dts
Or
https://github.com/beagleboard/bb.org-overlays/blob/master/src/arm/BBAI_BB-BONE-LCD7-01-00A3.dts
Support for beagleboard hardware's always on their github.
Thanks. These might do it.
How were you able to verify these are for the particular display?
The first one was published in 2012 which would be 7 years pre BBAI architecture. It looks like it gave members some issues on the Beagle Bone Black Wireless a few years back.
When I google around, it appears the second one is for a different 7" inch display.
I found this one that is in the year 2020 and has LCD in the title, but product reference is to another product I found on Digikey. The DTS section is configured for 5 momentary buttons that are not on this product's cape so I think I'm an apple and its an orange.
Thanks,
Sean
May be best to ask on the Beagleboard forum for this in particular https://forum.beagleboard.org/
