BB Blue JST polarity

I cannot find details on the three pin JST battery connectors layout apart from it's positive, sensing and earth. My question is which pin is the positive, is it the one nearest the edge of the board or is this the earth pin? 

I've got a 2P lipo battery but when I plug it into the board all the LEDs flash on and off together. I'm pretty certain that's not meant to happen but can't find any information on what it indicates. 

Any help greatly appreciated.

    If this is BeagleBoard Blue - the onboard JST is three-pins and is intended for 2S Li-Pos, not 2P . At a guess, that would be B+, mid, GND being expected, rather than a thermistor as in the single-cell…

    I wouldn't pay any mind to any offset in the schematic - that may be purely stylistic and depends on the symbol designer to some extent. https://git.beagleboard.org/beagleboard/beaglebone-blue/-/blob…

    Consult the schematics above - under Battery Connector (Pg1, C7), Pin1 = V_BATT,. Pin2 = BATT_MID, Pin3 = BATT_MINUS.

    Thanks, my typos..it's a 2S Li-pos. So, on the physical board which is Pin 1?

    Usually the pin that's marked with a triangle indication on the body or a notch in the plastic in the side - the bottom is an example of an JST XH plug that mates with the BeagleBone Blue.

    Of course, this assumes that the board is properly assembled at factory with the connectors facing the right way. If you have doubts, you can probably trace the pins individually and see which lead to ground etc.

    Thanks. My eyesight detects the little triangle on the connector. Looking at the schematic there is an left offset to the pins that is mirrored on the physical board. Is that relevant or just a print thing? 

    It's beginning to all click into place.

    Refer to the board layout - see the copper top layer:

    Square pads practically always denote the Pin 1 of a connection.

    If these two indications match, then you are absolutely certain of Pin 1 on both plug and receptacle. If not, then someone probably made a mistake somewhere ...
