Unless there's something on the board that you need, you can reflash a new OS onto a micro SD card (using your PC) and start from scratch. You can download either an image that runs from the SD card or…

    • The default username and password is debian/temppwd. Whilst we should change this, I suspect most people don't.
    • Is there anything on there you need? If not, it may be easier to just reflash the OS. It's probably been updated since you last looked too.

another option is to use a wifi to network gizmo (I use a Vonets VAP.11G):

    image

If the device is known to work with a wired network (say: the above beaglebone), you are set.

No connection to the PC. Can be powered from the BBs USB. And no drivers or config with the usual linux images.

You have to get a wifi dongle or other device that is compatible to BBB.I use conmanctl to configure my wifi dongles and have very good performance with it.Conmanctl comes with debian10, I'm not sure about debian11 yet as I have not tried it. I prefer to to not flash the BBB and use 32gb sd card to run the software. I have loaded many different versions this way and have never had to hold down the boot button to load the software OS.

    Hope this helps

    Brian

I haven't flashed any images in quite some time, once I bricked a board attempting that and since then I only run os on sd card.

As far as sha256 I could never get a matching sum so I don't bother with that anymore. I am not sure if you need the files mentioned.  Anyways what is your reason for flashing? I would like to know the benefits of this.

    Thanks

    Brian

Based on what I have gathered in this forum so far - and my initial issue of unable to login because I cannot get my password correct - reflashing will enable me to go back to default login . I am still trying to go through the flashing process in theory before even trying .

I always make sure root login is enabled in all of my distros.
