I joined a company recently that is using the Beaglebone black in a device that is outdoors. I recommended that we switch to the Industrial Element 14 version for improved temperature specs.
One serious issue that came up with the original BBB is that it would sometimes hang when reset and it prompted us to design in an external watchdog. A test that we performed was to reboot Linux (sudo shutdown -r now)
every few minutes using several boards and we found that a hang would occur about 5% of the time. There is this blurb but it is inconclusive and suggests abrupt power loss as a culprit and it doesn't seem that they performed the simple reboot experiment.
Has anyone had this experience? Has anyone studied the PMIC (measured voltage and timings examined the errata etc)?
Thanks,
Kenny
