RIoTboard Quick Start Tutorials

RIoTboard tutorial videosimage-1390470641302261.jpg

The RIoTboard RIoTboard is an open source platform based on an i.MX 6Solo applications processor, using an ARMRegistered CortexRegistered-A9 architecture.

element14 has produced a six part video series for the RIoTboard to help you get started. The video series will cover basics such as connecting displays and sensors. The tutorials will use both; Linux (Ubuntu) and Android (ICS) operating systems with the RIoTboard.  Basic RIoTboard introductions are also available HERE.

Part 1:How to connect different Displays to the RIoTboard on both Android and Linux.

Previous build were not configured in terms of kernel GADGET support . This build will be the official & the most updated one. Will push this to download center shortly.

This new image also seems to be smaller in size: 1.41GB vs 3.97GB for the other Yocto image ? Added some needed but missing packages (webcam,rsync,ntp,apache,libpng....) & removed a lot of bloatware…

Tushar Panda's blog is probably the best place for you to start looking for answers to your questions:

[One Stop Place] RIoTboard Platform Glossary

The Supported OS Images section has links to source for several Android and Linux builds.

This blog also has a Yocto on RIoTboard section with information on how to use Yocto in conjunction with community Freescale BSPs available here:

    https://github.com/Freescale/fsl-community-bsp-platform

The blog also has a RIoTboard Documentation section with a link to the user manual which has procedures for building from source, although they may be out-of-date in some respects.

This thread will give a notion as to what particular kernel versions you can get with specific Yocto releases:

Yocto Layer Change Relevant to RIoTboard

Just be aware that Embest and RIoTboard devs have apparently moved on to other things, so there is not much in the way of support anymore.  The same probably is probably true for community participants who put together the sub-forum content 2-3 years ago.

Are the sources to build a kernel available anywhere?

when I worked on the imx5 the Freescale blobs were pushed which had the reverence platform driver bsp setup, and it was handy to have.

Is this near any reference design, and is the support pushed anywhere, so it could be combined with the kernel image + freescale bits to make a kernel?

    thanks

    Jim

Linux Ubuntu throws errors when i do apt-get update

    try below in terminal:

    Step1: updating the sources,

    cat <<EOF >> /etc/apt/sources.list

deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric main restricted universe multiverse

deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric-updates main restricted universe multiverse

deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric-security main restricted universe multiverse

    EOF

    Step2: installing aptitude

    sudo apt-get install aptitude

    Step3: update all.

    sudo aptitude update

I burned the BSP Linux Yocto image on to a 16GB SD card but it doesn't boot. All the boot settings are set to boot from SD card. Linux Ubuntu works fine but doesn't have a valid resolution apart from 640X480. Its sad to see that appropriate software for this hardware is not well maintained. Linux Ubuntu throws errors when i do apt-get update and it does not let me download OpenCV even though i can browse through all the websites on Mozilla. I would be happy if anyone here can help me out.

That seems to work. Could you explain why it didn't work before (while it does in the videos) and it does with this new image?

This new image also seems to be smaller in size: 1.41GB vs 3.97GB for the other Yocto image ?

I would also add that using the Android Kit Kat 4.4 SD Card image (SDcard-image_SVN2705.zip), everything is fine and Wifi works properly.
