using mouse as measuring tape

Hello,

on creating new packages from existing parts it's somehow tricky to get all

pads and holes on the right coordinates - especially on items that use

different grids for the pads.

So I thought about a measuring aid to control the package layout.

Such a measuring aid could work that kind, that one uses a mouse-click to

fix the virtual measuring tape. Then on moving the mouse away, the distance

from that point is shown (both units, inch and mm).

The measuring could support 2 different modes, an so called ortho-mode,

where only the major difference between the coordinates is displayed

(either x2-x1 or y2-y1) and a free mode, where the right distance in any

direction is calculated and shown.

The measuring mode could be terminated with a mouse-click or i.e. by hitting

esc-key...

kind regards

Old trick, works also with Eagle: Temporarily move the part so that the

origin of your desired measurements falls onto 0.0/0.0 and switch the

grid to the precision you need. Now your cursor always shows the

distance. When done move it back so it is centered again.

What is the benefit over "MARK" mentioned by Joern three weeks ago?
