Element14 further breaks the newsgroup

From the newsgroup, if you attempt to reply directly to the poster of a

message you receive an email from Element14

You've recently responded directly to an email alert and your message

was sent to the general email inbox: communitymanager@premierfarnell.com

instead of the intended recipient.

message/email alert and post your response........end Quote

This is amazingly bad. It breaks the historical expected behaviour of the

news group.

And web forums can't do a lot of things NNTP can. Mostly related to

    speed and threading.

Not true.  But again, the various pros and cons have been hashed out plenty

already.  Statements like that when you know very well there are opinions

and arguments on the other side serve no purpose than to start another

    pointless food fight.

it is true. Especially threading is an important feature missing in

most forum software. And the speed issue is also immense.

But again, the various pros and cons have been hashed out plenty

    >already.  Statements like that when you know very well there are opinions

it's not pointless. Accept that there are people knowing the

important benefits of NNTP. I don't want to read weakly founded "pro

forum" postings uncommented because I don't want to be forced to use a

    forum some day.

Therefore the "pro forum" people must not keep quiet (although most of

them appear rarely). I suggest you count them, you might be surprised.

And why do you ignore that Joerg disproved one more "pro forum" you

mentioned, the decision whether to offer a off-group contact or not?

As far as I see, the only remaining "benefit" of a forum is fancy

formatting (what does this improve?) and the possibility to store

large files (which is also possible in the CadSoft file area but

    rarely necessary).

    it is true.

Grow up.  There are arguments on both sides that have already been hashed

out aplenty.  Let's not get into this again.
