Hi,

I like to fill the box a chip uses with a color as it looks better to my

publishers.

Most programs have this option but not Eagle that I can find. I figured a

way to do it with the symbol as I build the device but sometimes the color

isn't the same as what's shown in the symbol when I put it in my schematic.

Is there an easy way to do this?

    If that fails, you should be able to define your own layer and set it to

    any color you like.  Then add a rectangle of that layer over the chip.

    I've never actually done this, and don't know if custom layers can be

    defined in the package, but it seems it should work.

    I often defune custom layers in the library - it works well for me.

     

    I use 8 custom layers with 8 different colors for "highlighting" parts

    on a board printout for manual assembly of SMT prototypes.  I do this in

    the PCB (actually on a separate copy of the .brd file) and do not modify

    the library parts.  A ULP is helpful to automate the process.
