Got a funky looking private message asking to respond by email, so I logged on here to check him out and can confirm 100% this is some sort of email harvester.

...also comes somewhat close to spamming, the messages posted via
element-14 often contain such macros.

I prefer text-only emoticons and agree the way the platform injects emoticon graphics is a bit annoying. But I'm a bit confused - do you mean that emoticon usage borders on spam?

They just flood the newsgroup messages. Regardless of who uses them. :-\
