Is there any problems with this board?

Former Member

This is my first board.  I did some research on using eaglecad and used what i learned from the tutorials to put in this design.  Is there anything that stands out that might not work ? The circuit will operate at 5 volts.  The maximum current is about 700mA.

Thanks,

Jake

    Hi Jake,

At first sight, it seems to me that there is a clearance problem below 2nd chip on top, from left. Two vias are overlapping each other.

You shell use various built-in checks (ERC, DRC) to find basic errors in your design.

I'd guess that you're not dealing with high frequency signals, so you are very free to use much wider traces (and also keep your traces paths, which are not optimal now). My suggestion would definitelly be to make your traces wider.

Your question is very simple (and general), but any short answer might be misleading... For example, minimum traces width is related also to base material (laminate) used during PCB production - eg. standard copper layout thickness is 70 or 35 microns.

Furthermore, temperature is also a variable in this calculation, so, your working environment might request increased minimum traces width.

I was lucky to find a great book years ago, when I started with PCBs design. It's title is "High Speed Digital Design: A Handbook Of Black Magic". Highly recommended ! It includes various easy to follow practical guidelines.

After reading this book, you will most likely route your PCBs by hand, without any autorouter...  ;-)

    Good luck,  Ivan.

    Ivan,

Thank you for your input! It's appreciated.  I have already submitted my gerber files to the board house so it's too late for me to make modifications.  Like i said this is my first time.  If there is anything wrong it's going to be a learning expeirence.  Also a 110$ mistake >_< .  I think i am going to researsh the book u suggest, I need help image

    Thanks again,

    Jake

If there is a really big problem (obvious), your board house ought to

tell you about it & give you a chance to correct it before production.

    Bill
