Newby question about components

Please forgive this newbie question but it does not see to be addressed in

any FAQ.  I'm attempting to lay out  a simple board with the freeware

version and need to add quite ordinary components such as ceramic disk

capacitors, electrolytic capacitors and metal oxide resistors.  When I

search on those components, the list returns devices who's descriptions are

unknown to me.  Obviously, this is a program with a great deal of capacity.

Far more than I'll ever use but is there a simple answer as to what to

select when you just need to add a regular old 1K resistor or a 0.1 uF

capacitor?

    The RCL library contains commonly used resistors and capacitors.
