Can't Access Library Through Add Command in v4.16 on Win7sp1

I'm trying to use Eagle v4.16 on a newer computer with Windows 7, Service Pack 1, working on files I had created on another computer (XP).  Working on the boards/schematics is fine, but I can't add anything from the library.

The library and all its parts show up on the Control Panel, but the Add window shows up empty.  The Options directories now show "$EAGLEDIR\lbr;C:\Program Files\Eagle 4.16\lbr" (I added the second part to see if it helped--it didn't).

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

    Did you try "use"?

EDIT: more specifically, you could try "use *;" and then all libraries should show up in the Add dialog...

    Ah, yes.  That was it.

Haven't done a board in months and months--I forgot!

    Thank you for the info.

I am having the same problem using v6.5.0 freeware on Window Vista. I have tried USE to no avail. Any thoughts out there? Could this be a limitation of freeware?

When you start EAGLE and have just the control panel displayed, expand the Libraries item and see if anything is there.  If nothing is there, check for the proper path by going to "Options" then "Directories..."  You can go to the library directory with the windows explorer and see if there are any files in that directory.  If there are library files there, open a schematic, enter "use -*;" and then "use *;" and then "add" to see if that resets the path and reads the library names.  If there are no files, then the installer either didn't work or installed them in a different place...

    Good luck!

    Harvey:

Be aware that I'm using the old version 4.1, and that yours may be different, but if you go to the Control Panel, you can open the Library and hopefully see all the devices listed there.  On my version, there's a series of little green dots to the right of all the devices, which will be either big (used) or small (not used).  You can either click on the green dot to change its Use status, or you can right-click on the folder or the Libraries word to get a dialog box, which lists "New Folder", "Rename", etc., below which are the choices "Use All" and "Use None"--this will select the whole library.  Then when you try to Add something, the "Used" items should show up in the box.

    See how that works.

Thanks for the information. I was able to follow the procedure you suggested. However I still cannot access my library from the schematic editor.

From within the schematic editor I can choose to "USE" my library (it shows up in the list). However hen I use "ADD" to get my part the my library does not show up in that list.

There may be something wrong with the installation. When using the schematic editor the program frequently crashes subsequent to a mouse click.

I have tried removing and reinstalling with no success. At this point the program is unusable.

Thanks for your reply. My library does show up from within libraries folder accessed from the control panel. It also shows up in the USE list within the schematic editor. However it does not show up in the ADD list within the schematic editor. Strangely it also does not show up within the eagle libraries folder accessed via windows explorer.
