Problem in moving parts after routing!

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

Hi all, can anyone help with my slight problem.

I have created a layout, used the ratsnest function to clear up the paths and then hit autoroute to generate the tracks. All is good at this point.

I then needed to move some of the component positions. Moving the parts is causing the tracks to folow very odd paths and hiting ratsnest is not correcting the problem.

Am I right in thinking that the ratsnest function will not work after an autoroute function has taken place?

How do I fix this?

(I hope my explanation is not too vague)

Ratsnest affects only the airwires (well polygons too).

You will need to manually unroute the undesired tracks and then you can

    autoroute or manually route.

When you ripup the traces to reroute, be mindful of the small fragments that sometimes popup that are buried in the pad as it snaps to your routing grid. They can be particularly frustrating at times. I see them pop up where vias were placed as well and they may be on inner layers. They may require ripping up a via and rerouting to eliminate the unwanted fragment. I use the practive when manually routing to connect until the ratsnest shows nothing to do. I route all my boards manually due to autorouters not being able to handle the type of signals and circuits I work with.

    Thanks for the information.

Is there a genuine function for 'unroute' ?

I have tried to delete the routing so I can tidy it up but the program will not let me.

"Cannot back annotate the operation, do this in the schemetic"

WOW THERE ................................... I found the button marked 'ripup' ..... this is the tool I have been missing.

Ripup all the routing and all is wonderfull again.

I knew I should have read all of the instruction manual.

The Ripup command if my memory is correct is one of the commands that works with groups. You should be able to select a section of your layout with the group command, click on the ripup button and right click in your group which will ripup the routing on the entire group regardless of their associated netnames. If you want to disconnect the airwires, that needs to be taken care of in the schematic editor which has priority on the interconnection list (aka netlist).
