gerber data

Hi,

I am experimenting with changing the drill sizes when running

drillcfg.ulp, to use fewer drills, I've edited some of the drills

the same, and then run excellon.cam and gerb274x.cam.

T01 0.016in

T02 0.028in

T03 0.028in

T14 0.120in

T15 0.120in

T16 0.140in

T17 0.170in

T18 0.236in

I am noticing when I load the *.cmp and *.drd gerbers in GC-Prevue that

the drill diameters don't match the values in the drl drill rack file.

After I generate the gerbers, the *.drd file still has these values at

the top of it for the drill diameters:

T01C0.0160

T02C0.0240

T03C0.0280

T04C0.0315

T05C0.0360

T06C0.0400

T07C0.0470

T11C0.0660

T12C0.0790

T13C0.0827

T14C0.1000

T15C0.1181

T16C0.1200

T17C0.1378

T18C0.1700

T19C0.2360

To save on drills, since editing the drl file didnt change the drd file

drills, should I make these drill diameter changes in the drd file after

the gerbers are generated?

cheers,

Jamie

Wrong approach. Do not edit them as the same, but effectively delete

the unused ones (which means you need to renumber the tool numbers

    accordingly):

    Hi,

I ran drillcfg.ulp again and then edited it down to 12 drills, and then

ran excellon.cam, and still in the top of the .drd file there is this

    list of 19 drills:

    T01C0.0160

    T02C0.0240

    T03C0.0280

    T04C0.0315

    T05C0.0360

    T06C0.0400

    T07C0.0470

    T08C0.0492

    T09C0.0590

    T10C0.0591

    T11C0.0660

    T12C0.0790

    T13C0.0827

    T14C0.1000

    T15C0.1181

    T16C0.1200

    T17C0.1378

    T18C0.1700

    T19C0.2360

I guess the boardhouse will ignore these lines and will pick the closest

tool size in the .drl file?

In the gerber viewer GC-Prevue the drills in the .drd file are used to

    show drill dimensions.

    cheers,

    Jamie

I assume that your excellon.cam simply collects all drills from the

board and ignores your drill rack made by drillcfg.ulp.

Take a deeper look at that job, the device it uses and the input files

    it references.

I guess the boardhouse will ignore these lines and will pick the closest

tool size in the .drl file?

I would not rely on that.

If in doubt, generate SM1000 drill files - they don't have the tool

sizes included, so they definitely use your rack file.

In the gerber viewer GC-Prevue the drills in the .drd file are used to

    show drill dimensions.

That doesn't tell anything about what drills would be used by your board

    house.

In any case, talk to them.

    Hello Jamie,

Im not 100% sure about this but i believe that with versions > 4.12 you

don't need (want) to use drillcfg.ulp. These values are included in the

.drd when you run the post 4.12 version of excellon.cam. if you still

want to use drilcfg.ulp you should try another excellon cam file (that

doesn't include the drill info). Not sure how that is called though; I'm

still on 4.09, so i am unable to check that.

I am 100% sure that the subject came up before in this NG of the support

NG. If you search you should find it.

Thanks Tilmann and Richard, yes drillcfg.ulp isn't used by the

excellon.cam in 4.16 onwards it looks like.

    cheers,
