Schematic symbol and outline modification

Dear,

    I would like to ask you for something. How can I modify the

schematic symbol(and outline) of the part (I mean delete pin, add pin,

move pin)? When I want to modify one its pin, the program writes: "Can't

delete Pin from a Symbol that is in use!". What I should do to modify

(delete, add, move) pin? What I should do to make this symbol not be "in

use!"?

  • This can be done only in the lib-editor. First you have to remove the

    device, then do your changes & build the device again. Further details see

    the manual.

    And if it is used in more than one device the better option may be to

    declare a new symbol, copy the old one over, edit to your heart's

    desire, create a new device, add the new symbol to it, add the old

    package (or a new one if needed) and connect everything. It's a little

    work but becomes routine over time.

     

    IMHO it's not a good thing to mess with devices, packages or symbols if

    they have already been used in a schematic. Even if it was only one

    schematic. Make a new part.

    Yes to all. And even make a new library! Modifying an original lib is

    IMHO not a good idea, because in case of an update the old version is

    overwritten and all your work on libs is lost.

    Also, make sure your custom libraries are regularly mirrored over to the

    backup area. Else it is very easy to miss them during regular backups

    because the libs are hidden within program files, not where data usually

    resides. This would have saved one guy over at the support forum a lot

    of grief.
