SOIC-28 and SMT

Hi there,

At the company where I work we have been using Eagle for some time. But

recently, we are making the migration to SMT designs, and I am concerned

that the support for SMT libraries in Eagle seems poor. For example, I need

some straight forward 28pin SOIC packages, but when I look in the IC

packages library there are only PTH components. I checked in the on-line

download library but again nothing.

My conclusion is that Eagle is a really great PTH package, but for SMT I

will need to look elsewhere for a new layout program. Is my observation

accurate, am I being unfair, or have I looked for SOIC-28 packages in the

wrong place?

Cheers,

Ralph.

    Don't conclude so fast image

For example, there is  SO28W package in the 74xx-us.lbr, that's where

the typical logic chips are found. But as usual always check packages

thoroughly against a real footprint and the datasheet.

I have been able to find all of the basic SOIC, SOT packages just

fine... you will have to make your own library parts at times, but it is

not too time consuming, and obviously quicker then learning a new software.
