"electrical" symbol libraries?

autodeskguest

Is anyone aware of any libraries of JIC (or similar) symbols for doing

electrical drawings like contactors, motors, circuit breakers, panel

switches, transformers and the like? I realize that Eagle is a PCB package

and that these things are not really PCB elements, but I can't be the only

one who also uses Eagle for drawing general schematics of things that will

not be made into PCB's.

I more often than not find that my PC layout is only part of the overall

system I an working on, and being able to do the entire schematic, including

panel and cabinet wiring in the same format is most convienent.

I looked in the downloads section, but did not see anything like that,

perhaps I overlooked something. I am using v4.08.

Thanks for any suggestions.

For cabinet wiring etc. eagle is imho the wrong program. For this kind

of work look for pro/e, wscad or ecad ie.

Eagle is to design pcb´s. That means (for me) that connections to the

"more heavy" equippment end on the pcb in terminals or solder pads.

    Joern,

Thank you for taking the time to reply. You are correct, of course, it

is not really the proper tool for the job. It is just the case that we

use this only for in-house documentation, and it is easy and convenient

to have all of the schematics in one format. Since we already have a

number of full license seats of Eagle, and we are familiar with it, that

is what we have used, with some "tweaking." It happens that lately we

are doing somewhat larger stuff and more of it.  We may have outgrown

    this method, I guess.

    Thanks again for the reply.

    Regards,

    Al

I see what you mean. In my earlier days I erected powerplants and

substations and afaik eagle is quite far away from "knowing" (lbr´s)all

that stuff like protection equippment etc.

This would mean you have to start creating libs with that kind of devices.

The new eagle V5 contains some elektro libs but is far away from what

one needs. But you could download the free version and "sniff" through

those libs to get some suggestions.

I just see that Asko Rupponen has a god suggestion. Maybe that helps.
