Split schematics in logical blocks and rout e separately?

Former Member

Hi,

I would like to know if Eagle has an option to make logical blocks of some

electronic components and to make connection between them. Then, in PCB

design to route each block separately and after that just route between

blocks.

Is there such option?

    Regarding previous post:

Is it necessary to have "the same" working grid while making block with

grid where I intend to use that block?

Several of my designs use the same elements even the same partial layouts.  The way I handle it is to import those projects into the running project.  When you do this the imported schematic is added as a new page, and the routing of that project remains as it was saved, and appears like a part in itself in your board layout.

the files are for version 5, there is a need for a small change to let

them work with v6. I'll do that in the coming days. But if you are in a

hurry, just change  "254000." to "8128000." in all ulp files and re-try.

Finally, I have tried it and find it very interesting - I think it is

what I was looking for, but I have some questions there.

I have made a block using instructions from "hierarchical.txt" file.

When I have started "script make_device" for the first time I had

multiple errors about having non-existing paths. In that file

(hierarhical.txt) there is no note (should be!) that script paths should

be configured per user's PC (in create_device.upl, create_package.upl

files) - when I have solved that part, I have gone further and had some

pop-up questions/answers YES, YES, OK ....  and at the end block was

created. Do some elementary routing there, and I have saved it and now

ready to import the block to other project.

For the test, new project is created, I have made schematics with few

elements and after that I have "add"-ed from my library new element

which is actually the block I have created. In sch file it looks fine

and I have clicked on creating brd file. Done ! I have all elements

ready for routing, BUT regular elements are of normal size, and block

elements are about 10x or more bigger then regular elements.

I can't figure this out and find why is 10x or more bigger then regular

    elements!? Help needed !

Regardless of this problem ( 10x or more scale of block ) I have a

question - Is it possible to EDIT block within new project's brd file ?

Let's say, I have shape of the block that I need to change (fine tuning

job) - to make pcb smaller within new project - to move around elements

of the block and reroute it again within block , all within new project

    ?

    Thank you!

to edit a block, it's like editing any device/symbol/package in a

library, you open the lib using "open mylib" then you edit the pac or

    sym or dev as usual.

@Tim, thank you. I'll check that out during this week.

@Morosh, Thank you for your reply. No I am not in hurry, but I have tried

myself, as you have suggested. Here are some results:

    1) When I change that parameter from 254000 to 8xxxx. I have all elements

within block with correct size and they have correct size when inserted in

other the project. So that's it.

    2) But, If I am right, When I change that parameter from 254000 to 8xxxx I

have problem with drill diameter of pads I have in "mylib" created by

hierarchical 10, and I have to choose it manually from drop down list - not

    automated like before changes.

So, don't bother yourself with changing it here, but just make improved

    release of Hierarchical.

    Thank you.
