Disconnecting a part from nets during MOVE

sean444
sean444 over 16 years ago

One of the things I would like to be able to do is move a part around the

schematic without the nets following the part.  Same with MIRROR.

1.  Is there a way to do this?

2.  Is there a way to change the default of always keeping a part connected

to nets?

3.  Is there a way to move a wire end that is connected to a pin so that

the connection is severed?  I don't want to delete the wire.

There have been several times I want to mirror a symetrical part so that

the pins conect to opposing wires.

Thanks for any help offered.

Sean

my usual way to move something is to duplicate it with copy, drop it

where I need it, delete the original, rewire the schematic. if it's only

a few connections, i move it and clean up the mess.

as far as changing connections on a header, i suppose you find one

that's backwards ( now, how many times have i done that?? image )...

you can do the same thing if the header was defined with the pins at the

same swap level in the library. in this case it's probably easier and

safer to copy, delete and reconnect, and probably faster as well.

making a header pinswappable might lead to an error some day if you're

careless and swap something you shouldn't... but it might also be a good

exercise to learn more about EAGLE.

    Thanks Gary,

In version 5.6, which I am running, if I paste before I delete the

reference designators get changed.  That would defeat the true idea of

disconnecting the group for the purpose of just moving or rotating and then

reattaching.  If I am doing a board revision, I may want to change the look

of the schematic for my purposes, but not the look/feel of the PCB for

    production purposes.

Appreciate the help very much.  It is nice to know that this forum actually

    works.

It may be helpful to disconnect a large part by defining a group as a

narrow region just outside the part's pins, then delete the group.  This

should have the effect of deleting the nets immediately connected to the

part.  You may have to do this once for each side of the part that has

    connected pins.

Keep in mind that groups aren't restricted to being defined by rectangles.

You can specify a arbitrary polygon with successive left clicks, then one

right click to close the polygon and end the group definition.
