Design rule screen in 5.7.0

autodeskguest
autodeskguest over 15 years ago

The design rule screen is missing the "Save As" and "Load" buttons, at

least I cannot find them nor any way to save the file to a new name.

The screen shown on page 131 of the manual shows them, but danged if I

can get them to show up.

    So try that.

Setting up the DRC early in the board editing process is a good idea. You

can also create various DRC setups from there for later use by using the

SAVE AS button to write them to your private DRC directory you have in

    you

    DRC search path.

    Could that be the difference?

If I wanted to know that I'd simply try it, seeing as how that would be

faster than asking on a newsgroup.

This newsgroup is the method for getting support that Cadsoft recommends

in its documentation.  Being a new user I presume that the software

works the way the manual says that it does and when that is not the case

I first wonder if I am doing something wrong or missing something. Hence

my question so I can learn the proper techniques, not just take a shot

at something that seems odd to me.  Setting up design rules before

starting a board design seems logical and there is nothing in the

documentation that suggests a different procedure.

It would also be quicker if you answered the question rather than

telling us what you might do in my situation.  Since you are intimately

more familiar with the program than am I, it is little wonder that you

    might take a different approach.

I also note that you seem to have some difficulty in acknowledging that

there might be a defect in the program or the documentation.  That is a

pity as a perfect application and documentation is rare and improvements

can be made by feedback from users, especially new ones.

Calm down. This group is usually very fast if there are errors to report.

Usually I want to have a schematic before I discuss design rules and I

suppose many many others do it the same way.

So the problem may never have been noticed because I just checked

version 4.16r2 and that shows the same picture with no

" load / save as.." when opened from the control panel.

So this bug is confirmed and will be noticed by cadsoft you can bet.

But why didn't you try what Olin suggested, go from the board? image

    It's not a bug - it's a feature image

The "Load" and "Save" buttons are there to load a different

Design Rules file into a board (or save the current one from

a board). When editing a Design Rules file from the Control

Panel, there is no board to load into or save from.

It seemed logical to this newbie to set up the design rules before

beginning the board layout.  After completing the schematic and before

starting the board I wanted to set up my design rules.  That just seemed

logical to me and since one can access the design rules from the Control

Panel, why not provide for creating a new set of them for the subsequent

    board.  Hence, my question.

Then Olin gets all snarly and I questioned why.

I have now set my reader to ignore him.  Sorry if I offended anyone else.
