I open one of the example PCB layouts (it dose not seem to matter which

one).  Then when I run the "generate_3d_data.upl" I get the attached

error dialog.

I have had a look into the ULP to see why I too get this message.

Strange, but this ulp expects the board outline to be in an element/package.

I built a  package  having only the board outline on layer 50,  added it to

the board and then the ulp runs.

I thought I should warn you. I tried out these ULPs and alas you may not

find instant success with them.

Watch out for the spaces in the file names.

They all use different layers

(1) The file generate_3d_data_original.ulp uses layers

50(Layer3dBoardDimension), 57(tLayer3Ddata) and 58(bLayer3Ddata) [Layer

names defined withinULP]

(2) The file generate_3d_data v08_PBF_Board only.ulp uses 20,(Dimension) 17

(Vias) and 18(Pads)

(3) The file generate_3d_data v08_PBF.ulp  uses 20(Dimension), 21(tPlace)

and 22(bPlace)

The last file needs closed shapes depicted on the placement layers. If just

the corners of a device are depicted in tPlace/bPlace then un-closed polygon

errors are reported.

The output files are generated so have a go and see if Solidworks can digest

them.

with unmodified eagle example PCBs that won't work.

1) you need to redraw the board outline in layer 50. The line width

defines the board thickness.

For cut-outs this will not work as described in the documentation (at

least not with the ulp version I have). If you need cut-outs, define

the board outline including cut-outs as a library part.

2) for all parts you want to show up as 3 dimensional you need to

modify the related library to contain the hight informations in layers

57 (abovethe PCB) and 58 (below the PCB)

Line width translates to hight as in layer 50 (1mic -> 0.001mm)
