new library device is inaccessable

autodeskguest
autodeskguest over 15 years ago

I just made one new device in version 5.8, adding it to an existing library

from v5.6. This is my first new device since updating to ver 5.8.

From the schematic editor, the new device does not show up in my "Add" parts

bin.

I have checked everything I can think of including making sure no illegal

characters or spaces are in the device or variant name. Still, I can't

access my new component.

I have done "update > xxx.lbr" through the schematic and PCB editors several

times -just in case- but that has not helped. I even started a new schematic

just to see if I could add the part there, but NO.

Strange, I can add the device to a schematic from the control panel tree

view. Still, the part will not appear through the schematic editor's "Add"

part.

Has anybody else seen this behavior or otherwise have some insight into what

is happening? I used to see this in a previous version when I tried to use a

space in my device or package name, but I have used no space here.

arrgh, help please

    Is the library "in use"?

Try writing this into the command line:

    use *

Don't forget the blank space. Hit enter and see if it works now.

Thanks, Tilman, Joerg. You two were on the right track. I see what's wrong.

I incorrectly stated that I made a new device.

In fact, all I did was make new package and then add a package variant to a

device that was already in use.

... so "use *" should have had no affect. But It did. Each library is now

    listed twice.

Yesterday, the schematic editor was listing libraries from a different

directory than what I had specified, and not listing any libraries from what

    I did specify.

I KNEW that, because I could read the path beside the library name, but I

was too tired to know what to do about it.

I will delete the incorrect libraries one by one and try to figure out how

they got there some other time.

No, wait... WHAT happened to the "Drop" library box in the Add part window??

What did it do? Disappeared? Normally you highlight a library you don't

want to see during the current session, click "Drop", and it vanishes

from the selection screen. "Use *" will pop them all back in if you

    later change your mind.

BTW, please respond below the text. That makes it much easier to follow

for others in case a thread gets a bit longer.
